Frequently Asked Questions

How much does in-home care cost?

In-home care cost varies based on the type of services you need as well as whether long-term care insurance is available. Please reach out to us directly to get a sense of what your costs would be for the type of services your loved one needs.

What part of New Jersey do you serve?

We work with clients in Bergen County, Morris County, Passaic County, Essex County, Union County, and Somerset County. Some of the towns we serve include Ridgewood, Paramus, Saddle River, Ramsey, Alpine, Englewood Cliffs, Wycoff, Franklin Lakes Wayne, Montclair, Summit, Morristown, Madison, Short Hills, and Livingston. Our management offices are in Paramus and Summit.

Do you accept LTC insurance? Do you accept direct payments from any insurance companies?

Yes, we accept Long Term Care Insurance and can accept direct assignment, in which the insurance company pays Gratitude Homecare directly. This is also the case with any other insurance companies that will cover our services. Our insurance specialists can help you understand and navigate this process.

How do you vet your caregivers? What is your hiring process? Do you do background checks? Pay worker's comp? Taxes?

As a leading provider of in-home caregiving services, we have a robust vetting process that cuts no corners. We employ only state-certified home health aides as caregivers.

Our vetting process includes a complete background check, a health check, and an in-person interview.

We maintain a full personnel file on every caregiver, including relevant health records with covid vaccination status. We check with the state licensing authority to ensure that there are no infractions on their record that would prevent them from providing caregiver services. In addition, we collect I-9 forms that ensure that they are legally able to work in the US.

Am I responsible to find coverage for my loved one if the caregiver is on vacation? How do you handle vacations with caregivers?

You do not need to find coverage for your loved one if the caregiver is on vacation. This is one of the benefits of working with Gratitude Home Healthcare. We all handle staffing and coverage assignments. Our families do not need to obtain coverage if a caregiver is on vacation or unexpectedly unavailable. We have a staffing team that matches family needs to caregivers and will provide a caregiver to cover the regularly assigned caregiver.

How does the team communicate with my family? Is there a meeting to discuss needs?

We have a Care Manager who is responsible for family communication. Our Nurse will do an initial needs assessment and then we collaborate as a team to ensure that our clients’ needs are properly met. Our collaboration team includes our nursing team, our care manager, and our operations manager. Based on the assessment, our Care Manager will communicate with the family and meet with the family as needed.

How do you determine the right fit for my mom or dad?

We rely on collaboration with the family, care management, our nursing manager, and other professionals involved in the care of your loved ones to determine the best care solution possible. If the family has already obtained the services of an independent care manager or elder care specialist, we will collaborate with them to create the best solution.

Do you work with geriatric care managers, elder care specialists, and case managers that are not associated with or employed by Gratitude Homecare?

We frequently work with independent, community-based geriatric care managers or elder care specialists. These individuals often approach us about providing services for their clients. We are known for our ability to work closely with them to deliver the type of care that is needed.

What training and support do you provide to your caregivers?

Before our caregivers are placed, they complete a thorough in-person interview. As a part of this interview, we develop an understanding of their prior caregiving experience. If they pass the interview, we provide a complete orientation before they take on a case. In addition, we have a nursing team that provides field training to our caregiving team.

Gratitude Homecare offers a Certified Home Health Assistant Certification (CHHA) Course, and we have a team of educators to implement this training. This means that our team is fully versed in caregiving best practices. We incorporate these best practices into our orientations and field training.

Do you work with the social workers in the area hospitals and rehabs?

Yes, we work with social workers in area hospitals and rehabilitation centers. We collaborate with them to determine the best care approach. We often receive referrals from these individuals when they recognize that a patient needs the type of caregiving assistance we provide.

In addition, we are a sponsor of education events specifically for social workers and they can earn continuing education credits (CEUs) from the training we provide.

What if homecare isn't the right fit for my family member?

We partner with assisted living facilities in the community, and we can help families transition from home care to assisted living and even from assisted living to home care. Sometimes clients anticipate that they will need a “dual plan” – a plan that starts with home care but accommodates an eventual need for an assisted living facility.

We also provide caregiving services at assisted living facilities and rehabilitation services. Families may recognize that their loved one needs additional support and companionship beyond what is standard in these facilities. We will collaborate with the staff at the facility to ensure that their loved one receives exactly the kind of care they need.

How do you share information with your team for seamless follow-through?

We use technology to ensure communication is seamless. We have a dedicated software tool that allows us to maintain all information related to a client in a central location and information and follow-up tasks are instantly communicated to caregivers via an App that they have on their phone.

How will the aides know my mom's routine if they are new?

During the intake interview process with the nurse, information is collected about daily routines. This is discussed with the caregiving and operations teams, and it is also relayed to the caregivers.

What methods of payment do you accept?

We accept payment via Credit Card, ACH Bank Transfer, Long Term Care Insurance direct assignment, or workers comp insurance direct assignment. For your convenience, we will send an email that includes a payment link, or we can set up autopay. The online payment link allows you to view your invoice online and pay with just one click. You can also see up-to-the-minute balances and share payments with other family members.

Can a team member meet us at the rehab or hospital to discuss needs?

Yes, we can do this. Our team is available to meet a client in person to review a family’s needs whether at the home or in a rehabilitation center or assisted living facility.

What happens if the caregiver that is matched to my mom is not a good fit? How is that handled?

We recognize that sometimes there may not be a good fit for a variety of reasons. If there is a concern, Gratitude Homecare handles all communications related to managing a change in caregiver. Families do not need to get involved. We will communicate the process to the family in advance so that you are aware.
