2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

This October 14, 2023, Gratitude Homecare continues its commitment to help fight Alzheimer’s. We are participating in the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s –  Bergen- Passaic NJ. In fact, our owner, Jela Maretic, serves on the walk committee. We have a team participating in the walk for Alzheimer’s Disease that has already begun to raise funds, and we will be hosting a Pet Station and offering Treats during the event.

At Gratitude Homecare, we have a high level of commitment to ending Alzheimer’s, because we see how much Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia impact our families. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 33% of people over the age of 85 have some degree of dementia.  Many of the families we serve have had to address these concerns which extend beyond the normal physical aspects of aging.  Approximately 6.5 million people in the US over the age of 65 suffer from Alzheimer’s, 55 million people worldwide. With the aging of the population, that number is anticipated to increase.

Alzheimer’s dementia place is a burden not only on families but society at large. The possibility of being able to alter the course of this disease is well worth our investment in our time and in research dollars. Reduction in the prevalence of Alzheimer’s would be a significant improvement in quality of life for many families in the US.

The challenge of coming to terms with an elderly loved one who has Alzheimer’s disease, and ensuring that they have proper care is huge. Not only do families have to deal with memory loss issues, but there may also be personality and behavior changes that make caring for our loved ones extremely difficult. While caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s Disease can be very rewarding, according to the Alzheimer’s Association almost 60% of caregivers experienced high or very high emotional stress.

Our certified home health aides face this challenge on a daily basis. They have the ability to provide needed support because they are well-trained and accustomed to working with older adults who have dementia-related challenges.

We know that families often hesitate to get additional help because they feel that they should be able to handle these issues on their own. But the reality is that many families dealing with Alzheimer’s Disease will need additional help to ensure health and safety.

Our team is committed to helping our elderly loved ones have a good quality of life, regardless of their disease state. If you know of someone who is challenged to cope with a loved one who has Alzheimer’s related dementia, or any other form of dementia, we can provide needed support.
